Spain's sunny neighbor includes Mediterranean landscapes, superb beaches and historic towns that exude romance. Portugal is a wonderful honeymoon destination. The mountainous north and central regions of the country are verdant with forests, vineyards and valleys, while the south is drier, ideal for the fruit trees, corn oaks and vines which flourish here.

Lisbon is the down-to-earth and welcoming capital of Portugal, offering a collection of excellent museums, an unusual blend of architectural styles and a lively nightlife. Set on the banks of the Tejo River, Lisbon is a popular city whose squares, markets, streets and castles are ideal for quiet strolls.

Northwest of Lisbon stands the town of Sintra, surrounded by thick woodland. This is the ideal place to discover the ghosts of Portugal's past, through the many palaces and ruins that are scattered throughout the town.

The Portuguese countryside is a beautiful blend of olive groves, vineyards, orange and fig trees, wheat fields, rivers and valleys. This colorful vista is what surrounds the walled town of Evora, a blissfully peaceful place with a lovely cathedral and temple to visit.

The sun and sand of Portugal's coastline continually attracts visitors from all over the world. Some of the best beaches are found at Lagos, which is located on the south coast of the Algarve. A coastal town or village is the ideal place to discover Portugal's delicious seafood and great wines. Portugal also has a strong tradition of arts and crafts, the most striking of which is the production of decorative tiles known as azulejos.

Portugal is a nation steeped in tradition which is nonetheless stepping firmly into the 21st century with confidence and pride. A Portuguese honeymoon will reveal to you a country full of romance, vibrancy and great natural beauty.
