The Thai people are well reputed for their friendliness, and will share with you a beautiful country.
The exciting, densely-populated capital city of Bangkok is the center of economic and political life in Thailand. The city is an ideal place to get silk clothes tailor made, and visit the floating market. The city has over 400 temple-monasteries, known as wats.
West of Bangkok is Nathon Pathom, the oldest city in Thailand, and home to the tallest Buddhist monument in the world, Phra Pathom Chedi. More cultural richness is found at Ayuthaya, which was the Thai capital for many centuries. Its temple ruins, dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries, have been declared a World Heritage Site.
Chiang Mai, Thailand's second city, was founded in 1296. It has many excellent restaurants, some 300 temple-monasteries, and is a good base for treks in to the surrounding hills.
Thailand is justifiably famous for its islands, the most famous of which are Ko Samui and Phuket. It will be hard to tear yourself away from their palm-fringed beaches, but head inland and you will discover coconut plantations, rice paddies and tropical vegetation. Diving and snorkeling are popular off the coast, where beautiful coral reefs lie beneath the water's surface.
Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand, and you will see orange-robed monks wherever you go. Your Thai honeymoon offers you the chance to uncover more of this fascinating country, where history, culture and natural beauty combine with stunning results.
