Honeymoons in India

Spending your honeymoon in India will overload your senses with incredible sights, sounds and aromas. From the glamour of the 'Bollywood' film industry in Mumbai to the stunning natural beauty of the Keralan backwaters and the white sand beaches strung along the coast, India is a land of contrasts.

Some parts of the country will make you feel that you are stepping back in time, as the social and religious structures of India have remained largely the same for the past 4000 years. Ancient temples abound, as do quaint colonial buildings and historic forts, to name just a few of the architectural features of this fascinating country.

The desert state of Rajasthan in the north is filled with romance, and its main cities of Jaipur and Udaipur are breathtaking. Colorful Jaipur is known as the 'pink city' due to the rosy color of its old buildings and city walls, which radiate a warm glow in the evening. Udaipur is arguably even more romantic, dubbed the 'Venice of the East' as it is built around a beautiful lake. The city has a huge number of lovely palaces and temples to visit.

India's most famous monument is, without doubt, the Taj Mahal. As near to perfection as is possible, this poignant masterpiece was built by the Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. Semiprecious stones are embedded into the shimmering marble in intricate patterns.

Southern India is very laid back, and its foremost attractions are Goa and Kerala. Both states have a string of palm-fringed beaches, colorful markets and superb cuisine. Kerala has a stunning network of backwaters - taking a boat ride down these winding rivers, with greenery stretching out as far as the eye can see on both sides, is unforgettable.

India has countless other attractions - modern cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta, hillside retreats including historic Shimla, and extensive stretches of quiet countryside. A honeymoon in India will be a unique experience.
